Sheffield is home, so unsurprisingly it’s one of the places I photograph most. I work across the city for architects, developers, contractors, manufacturers and interior designers, covering everything from small residential projects to university buildings, warehouses and major city-centre developments.

It’s a particularly good city to photograph because the architecture is so varied. Sheffield’s industrial past is still very visible, but it now sits alongside large-scale regeneration, contemporary housing and increasingly ambitious commercial architecture. The hills also make a difference: buildings that would disappear into a flat city can suddenly be seen against the wider landscape.

Being based here is genuinely useful rather than simply something to put on an SEO page. I can be flexible with weather and light, return to a project relatively easily if conditions don’t work, and I know the city well enough to find viewpoints that aren’t always obvious on a plan.

My Sheffield work includes residential extensions and new-build homes, commercial developments, industrial and logistics projects, interiors and architectural product photography. Where the scale or setting warrants it, I also combine ground photography with drone imagery to show how a development relates to the surrounding city.

I work carefully with natural light and use specialist tilt-shift lenses to keep architectural perspective accurate, but I’m equally interested in finding the less predictable photographs: reflections, details, materials and the changing relationship between a building and its surroundings.
