Architectural Photographer in London

Despite being based in Sheffield, I spend a lot of time photographing architecture in London. Travelling down for commissions is completely normal for me, whether that’s one carefully planned project or several locations spread across a couple of days.

London is difficult to generalise about, which is one of the reasons I enjoy working there. A shoot can involve a large contemporary development one day and a tightly constrained historic interior the next. The city offers an enormous range of architecture, but it also brings practical challenges: limited access, people everywhere, restricted parking and buildings that can be surprisingly difficult to photograph from street level.

I work across London for architects, developers, suppliers and design-led businesses, photographing commercial buildings, residential schemes, interiors and architectural products.

Planning matters particularly here. I’ll look at orientation and likely sunlight beforehand, establish which views are important and work around access and city activity rather than arriving and hoping for the best. Where possible I’ll also photograph across different light conditions, because London buildings can look completely different at dusk compared with the middle of the day.

The aim isn’t simply to make a building look impressive. I want the finished collection to explain the architecture, its materials and its place within the city, while still producing the stronger individual images clients need for portfolios, press, awards and marketing.
