Commercial Photography for Property, Construction and Design | Dug Wilders

Commercial photography is probably the broadest description of what I do.

I’ve photographed everything from tiny pieces of architectural hardware to warehouses the size of small towns. My clients include developers, contractors, building-product manufacturers, architects, property companies, furniture brands and businesses that simply need their work represented properly.

The important part is understanding why the photographs are being commissioned.

A developer marketing a logistics park needs something very different from a brick manufacturer wanting to show its product on a finished building. One needs scale, access and context; the other may need me twenty metres from a façade looking for the exact angle where the material catches the light.

That is why I don’t approach commercial shoots with a fixed shot list or style. We establish what matters beforehand and build the shoot around it.

For large developments I will often combine ground photography with drone imagery, moving between broad establishing views and details that demonstrate construction quality. For manufacturers and suppliers, I concentrate more closely on their contribution to the project while still producing enough wider imagery to show the product in context.

I also understand that finished commercial sites are rarely completely under our control. Cars appear, tenants arrive, loading bays become busy and the sun has little interest in a marketing deadline. Experience matters here. Sometimes the solution is careful planning; sometimes it’s waiting; occasionally it’s simply finding another photograph while the problem gets out of the way.

My commercial photography is used across websites, brochures, advertising, tenders, investor material, press releases, case studies and social media.

I’m based in Sheffield and work commercially across the UK, with regular commissions in London, Manchester, Leeds and further afield.
