Architectural Photographer in Peak District

Living in Sheffield puts me right on the edge of the Peak District, and a large amount of my residential architectural work takes me out into Derbyshire and the national park.

The architecture here has its own set of challenges. Contemporary extensions, new-build homes and barn conversions often have to work alongside traditional stone buildings and within landscapes that are every bit as important as the architecture itself. Photographing them properly means showing both.

I’ve photographed projects throughout the Peak District, including contemporary extensions in Bamford, rural conversions, high-end homes and buildings where the views across the landscape are central to the design.

For these shoots I often spend as much time thinking about the position of the sun and the surrounding landscape as I do about the building. Early morning and evening light can completely change stone, timber and glazing, while drone photography is particularly useful when a house needs to be understood in relation to a valley, village or hillside.

Inside, I focus on natural light, materials and the connections between rooms and the views beyond them. Outside, I want enough wider imagery to explain where the project sits, alongside the cleaner architectural photographs architects need for their portfolios.
