This architectural photography project documents the Hollis Croft high-rise development in Sheffield city centre for Creative Brick Solutions, with the brief focused specifically on showcasing the external brick and cladding system they supplied. The scale of the tower made it important to capture both the overall architecture and the finer façade detailing across the completed building.
From street level, the photography focused on the rhythm of the brickwork, windows and contrasting façade elements, using lower viewpoints to emphasise the height and strong vertical form of the development. Wider compositions also show how the contemporary tower sits amongst Sheffield’s older buildings, creating an interesting contrast between the city’s historic fabric and its rapidly changing skyline.
Drone photography was particularly useful on a project of this scale. Being able to work at different heights and from viewpoints impossible to achieve from the ground allowed the full façade to be documented, while aerial images placed the building clearly within its Sheffield city-centre context. The top-down perspectives also give a very different sense of the tower’s footprint, roof structure and relationship with the surrounding streets.
The final collection combines detailed material photography, dramatic ground-level architectural views and wider aerial imagery, giving Creative Brick Solutions a comprehensive record of their work on a major Sheffield development. It forms part of my wider architectural and commercial photography across Sheffield and the UK, documenting high-rise developments, building products, façades and large-scale urban architecture.
